About this tour
“Cantona” means "house of the sun" and is located in the municipality of Tepeyahualco. It is considered the most urbanized city of pre- Hispanic Mexico, due to the highly elaborate planning and symmetrical layout.
Cantona distinguished itself from other urban centers of Mesoamerica by its complex and efficient network of traffic routes, its sheer size of approximately 867 hectares and the astounding number of ball courts (20). Built on a volcanic lava spill, it was re-discovered only in the mid-nineteenth century.
